2016 CEPA-ACPÉ Conference

Report on the 2016 CEPA-ACPÉ Annual Conference

The meeting of the Canadian Educational Press Association (CEPA) convened in Toronto, Ontario on June 12-15, 2016, and was hosted by the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation and the Ontario Teachers’ Federation.  The venue for the conference was the newly renovated King Edward Hotel in downtown Toronto and within walking distance or subway/streetcar of most events.

All told, 22 CEPA members attended the conference. Membership also expanded to include post-secondary representation. Representatives of the following associations, federations and organizations attended: AEFNB, ATA, BCTF, CTF, ETFO, NBTA, NSTU, OCUFA, OSSTF, OTF, PEITF, QPAT.

Speakers’ presentations and facilitators’ break-out sessions focused on the following: the art of blogging; harnessing social media effectively; designing effective media campaigns; populating the revamped CEPA WordPress site; overcoming challenges associated with communications and networking and the ever-evolving role of traditional media.

The Blue Jays’ baseball game at the SkyDome, the segway tour of the Distillery District and dinner at the 360 restaurant atop the CN Tower were social and networking highlights.

Companion documents include the financial report and conference participants’ survey responses.  Artefacts from the 2016 conference can be found on the CEPA website.
